Moortown Local Scoop- Wednesday 31st January
Wednesday 31st January 2024
Yesterday we asked you where you thought the image of this location is within Moortown during the 1950s.
This was from Harrogate Road! Did you get this right? Keep an eye out for more of these in subsequent newsletters.
Good morning, Moortown readers!
We're starting off on a chilly note with 3°C, but the sun will pop out among clouds as we warm to a brisk 6°C by noon. Wind's picking up, so watch your hats.
Evening plans? Bring an umbrella. Rain's rolling in around 4 PM with an 80% chance to make a splash. It'll cool down post-rainfall to a crisp 5°C at night.

Roundhay Park's Charm at Risk with Proposed Parking Charges
The proposal to introduce parking fees at Leeds' seven parks, including Roundhay Park, has sparked criticism. Residents feel this move unfairly targets those less financially stable, including the elderly and families with children who enjoy the free access to these communal green spaces.
Roundhay Park, a site of health and community activities, sees over a million visitors yearly. The concern is that parking fees might discourage park usage, impacting public health and community well-being, a stark contrast to the intentions of John Barran who donated the park for the betterment of Leeds' residents.

Moortown RUFC Teams Roundup
As we know Moortown RUFC had a triumphant weekend with the First XV securing a decisive 54-22 victory over Bridlington Rugby Club at home, but they were not the only team to get a win. The Super 2s also celebrated a win in their matches against Harrogate Rugby and Scunthorpe RUFC. The Marauders, however, faced a narrow defeat against Leos Rugby Club. In youth action, the Colts achieved an impressive win against Doncaster Knights Academy. The club extends heartfelt thanks to their Club Sponsor Morley Glass and match day sponsors for their unwavering support.
Wear Red Day for Children's Heart Surgery Fund
This is a reminder to parents about the upcoming Red Day this Friday at Moortown Primary School.
The school is embracing Wear Red Day to aid the Children's Heart Surgery Fund, supporting Leeds Congenital Heart Unit. Though red is a staple in their uniform, the school are inviting students to add extra red flair—think socks, hats, or shorts.
Participation is voluntary, and any donations made will directly benefit the chosen charity, contributing to the welfare of the unit's young patients and their families.
