Real-Life 'Wet Bandit' Floods Leeds Home, Racks Up £350,000 in Damages
Tuesday 9th April 2024
Reveal Time: Did you guess it? 🎉
Well done to those who recognised The Deer Park pub from yesterday’s snapshot of the '90s!
The popular local spot underwent a major refurbishment in June 1998, transforming it into the welcoming pub we know and love today. Whether you nailed the guess or were stumped, thanks for walking down memory lane with us.
It looks like a classic mix of sun, clouds, and showers for today.
Starting off a bit nippy with clouds and sunshine peeking through as the morning progresses. Temperatures will gradually climb, but you’ll want your umbrella handy, especially by midday and into the afternoon, as we’re expecting some rain showers.
By evening, the rain should taper off, making way for clearer skies and a cooler close to the day. Remember to layer up and stay dry out there!

Real-Life 'Wet Bandit' Floods Leeds Home, Racks Up £350,000 in Damages
In an act echoing the notorious "Wet Bandits" from "Home Alone," Joe Cunningham, a member of a criminal gang, devastated a Leeds home by intentionally causing a flood after a burglary.
The incident, which occurred post-Christmas, resulted in a substantial financial blow to the homeowner, with damages and losses amounting to £350,000.
Cunningham's crime spree, which included a range of offences from burglary to assaulting police officers, earned him a prison sentence of over six years.
He was first known to police when a Range Rover was stolen in Shadwell in March 2023. Equipped with a tracker, the stolen 4x4 was located by the police in Moortown.
Despite their pursuit, Cunningham managed to evade them by driving recklessly, even against traffic. He ditched the vehicle on Lingfield Drive and escaped on foot.
The police's extensive search, including aerial support, was unsuccessful in apprehending him at that time.
The court recognised his history of professional-level criminal activities and enforced a significant driving ban alongside his incarceration.
