Moortown Local Scoop- Tuesday 30th January 2024
Tuesday 28th January 2024
Morning, can you guess where the below Moortown image was taken in the 1950s? The answer will be in tomorrow’s (Wednesday’s) newsletter!
Good morning, Moortown readers!
Today, Moortown is kicking off with a cloudy start, accompanied by occasional light spells of rain or showers. However, as the day progresses, we can expect a positive change in the weather.
From the north-west, things will start to dry up, and the clouds will give way to brighter skies during the afternoon. Alongside this weather shift, there will be a growing breeze. So, while the morning might have a bit of rain in store, the afternoon promises a drier and brighter outlook.
Tuesday, 30th January
Moortown Social Club is hosting a Line-Dancing from 7:15pm - 10:15pm. Well known dance teacher (Paul), with over 25 years’ experience will be leading the class. Entry costs £5.00 and there is a fully licenced bar in operation all evening.
A Dance On session for MAE Care members will be hosted at Moortown Methodist Centre between the hours of 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm.
In Roundhay the Tuesday Forest School will be taking place. The program is an exceptional opportunity for children to engage with nature and learn in a dynamic environment.
Thanks to the generous permission from Leeds City Council, the classes take place in the serene and ever-changing setting of the local Roundhay woods. The diverse landscape offers a unique experience each week, fostering an ideal environment for children to explore at their own pace.
Under the guidance of a Level 3 qualified instructor, our Forest School provides a variety of activities tailored to the current season, incorporating the use of tools and interaction with natural elements like mud, integral to the Forest School ethos.
Admission costs £5. The program is between 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.
Thursday, 1st February
Like on Tuesday The Forest School will be held again given children another opportunity for those who missed Tuesday or want to engage with the program again.
Admission again, costs £5. The program is between 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.
🚨 Community Alert: Urgent Action Needed! 🚨
We bring your attention to a pressing matter affecting our neighbouring area between Meanwood and Potternewton. Residents on Beckhill Approach are facing an alarming situation with overflowing rubbish bins, creating a health hazard and attracting rats "the size of cats."
Andrew Mills, advocating for his elderly mum Esmerelda, highlights the ongoing issue persisting for over two years. Despite regular emptying by Leeds City Council, the bins quickly fill up, and non-residents contribute to the problem by dumping trash. The situation is not only unpleasant but poses a significant health risk, particularly for vulnerable residents like Mr. Mills' mother.
Local residents are calling upon Leeds City Council to address this matter promptly, considering the health and well-being of the residents. The discussions about relocating the communal bins need swift resolution to prevent further distress to the community.
