Man Accused of Bomb Plot at Leeds Hospital Cites Anger at Colleagues, Not Ideology
Mohammed Farooq, 28, is on trial for allegedly attempting to detonate a pressure-cooker bomb outside St James's Hospital in Leeds on 20 January 2023, motivated by anger at colleagues rather than Islamist ideology.
Farooq, who has autism spectrum disorder, depression, and personality disorders, denies preparing acts of terrorism but admits to firearms offences and possessing an explosive substance with intent.
The prosecution argues he was influenced by extremist content online, while the defence claims he was isolated and struggling with personal issues. The trial at Sheffield Crown Court is nearing its conclusion with closing statements expected soon.
