Children Returned to Family After Leeds Foster Care Controversy

Four children, whose emergency removal to foster care sparked unrest in Leeds, have been returned to their extended family. Police and social workers initially took the children over concerns they might be taken out of the UK, leading to disturbances in Harehills, including a torched bus and overturned police car.

Judge Her Honour Justice Helen Trotter-Jackson emphasised focusing on the children's welfare and de-escalating tensions. The children's parents welcomed the decision, and Leeds City Council, after extensive meetings, supported their return to the family.

The court, considering cultural and welfare concerns, ruled in favour of the family placement despite opposition from the Children and Family Court Advisory Support Service (Cafcass).
