Changes to Bin Collections in Alwoodley and Surrounding Areas

Wednesday 3rd April 2024

Good Morning, Moortown!

Today's weather in Moortown is looking a bit like a tap that can't decide whether it's on or off. Starting out at a fresh 7°C in the early hours, we've got some rain on the agenda.

Around noon, there's a brief intermission from the rain, but don't ditch the brolly just yet—it's set to be a showery encore from the late afternoon into the night with temperatures steady at 10°C, then cooling down to 8°C as we head into the early hours of Friday. Stay dry out there!

Leeds Council Rolls Out Brown Bin Collections Across the City

Leeds City Council has initiated this year's brown bin collections, beginning April 1st and running until December, without additional charges.

The program, serving 220,000 households, includes areas like Cookridge, Horsforth, Adel, and Alwoodley.

This effort makes Leeds one of the few UK cities offering free garden waste services and is a step in the right direction for the council's commitment to efficient waste management and environmental sustainability. Residents are reminded to utilise this service for their garden waste disposal needs.

Leeds Youth Lead the Charge in Active Travel

Leeds City Council is celebrating the innovative contributions of local students to the city's active travel initiatives. Pupils from four secondary schools presented their ideas at the Active Travel Ambassador Campaign Junction event, held at the Brownlee Centre.

Proposals tailored to improve sustainable travel and road safety within their schools were showcased, impressing a panel of industry experts. The winning pitches were awarded funding to bring their campaigns to life, aligning with Leeds' goal for a car-independent city and enhancing child-friendly transport options.
