Umee Sushi's Arrival in Chapel Allerton 🍣

Thursday 25th April 2024

Grab a light jacket for the early hours; we're starting at a cool 5°C with some sleepy clouds, but no rain to spoil the commute. By lunchtime, it's a mild 7°C with the sun peeking out — perfect for a midday stroll if you don't mind dodging a few raindrops.

Come evening, it's still comfy at 9°C, so you've got the green light for any after-work plans. Just keep an umbrella handy as showers are likely.

As night falls, the temperatures are diving too, down to a chilly 3°C. So if you're out late, bundle up and enjoy the clear skies — star gazers, this one's for you!

Umee Sushi's Arrival in Chapel Allerton

Chapel Allerton is about to get a taste of Japan with the upcoming opening of Umee Sushi on Harrogate Road. This new restaurant, set to launch in early May, will fill the space of a former pharmacy, offering authentic Japanese cuisine including bluefin tuna sushi and wagyu burgers.

The 36-seat venue promises an original dining experience and has already garnered positive anticipation from the local community. The owner, with years of expertise in sushi restaurants, is both excited and nervous to bring his culinary vision to life in this vibrant Leeds suburb.

Aire Street Workshops' Future in Jeopardy

Leeds City Council's decision to sell the Aire Street Workshops has unsettled the local indie business community. Over 30 creative enterprises face eviction to reconcile budget deficits and achieve carbon neutrality goals.

Despite reaching a financial breakeven, the council's sale undermines the rich cultural tapestry crafted by these businesses, raising critical questions about the council's support for local arts and small businesses within the 'City of Culture'.

A petition resisting the sale reflects the community's resolve to protect their entrepreneurial haven.

A Y3 Student's Charity Hike For Gaza

A Year 3 student at Moortown Primary School embarked on a fundraising walk up Ingleborough, the second-highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales, to support the Save the Children Gaza Appeal.

Despite the challenge, the student successfully raised £5000 and, despite developing blisters, felt the effort was worthwhile. This event highlights the student's commitment to supporting humanitarian causes at a young age.
