Are Leeds City Council running out of money?!?
Friday 26th April 2024
Rise and shine to a bright and fresh start to your day with temps gently climbing from a crisp 2°C early on up to a comfy 9°C by lunchtime.
As we roll into the evening, our skies will get a bit teary-eyed with chances of rain picking up — so don’t forget to grab your brolly if you’re out and about! Temperatures will hover around 9°C, so it’ll still be a good idea to keep a cosy jumper handy.
And for the night owls among us, expect a cool-down as temperatures dip back to around 4°C. The rain should ease off, leaving us with some peaceful, cloudy night skies.

Leeds Council Digs Into Cash Reserves
Leeds City Council has had to tap into its cash reserves to balance its budget due to significant financial challenges. After making necessary savings and facing an overspend, the council has resorted to using £14.7 million from the Merrion House Reserve.
Despite a refund on unspent transport funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, there's still a shortfall in savings, mainly from increased costs in children's social care. Measures like freezing non-essential spending and recruitment continue to be in effect to manage the situation.
Local Involvement in South Yorkshire Firearms Case
In a significant operation against illegal firearms conversion, 18 individuals are set to appear in court, including a resident from Roundhay.
This follows a year-long investigation by South Yorkshire's specialised crime units into the illicit modification of blank firearms into operational weapons.
Those charged face serious accusations of conspiring to sell, transfer, and manufacture weapons and ammunition.
A Roundhay local is among those with multiple charges. Three additional arrests have been made with investigations ongoing.
Allerton High School Exams
This week commenced the start of exams for both year 11s and year 13s with Wednesday and Thursday seeing the year 11s have their art/photography exams.
Tomorrow the year 13s will be starting their textiles exams with their A-levels following towards the end of May.
We wish all students taking part in exams the best of luck.
