Friday 15th March 2024

Good morning, Moortown readers!

Good morning, Moortown! Today's weather starts with cloudy skies at 10°C and a gentle hint of rain in the early hours. Keep your umbrellas handy as those rain chances stick around, nudging upwards as the morning progresses.

You might catch some sun around noon, but don't be fooled, the rain's not done yet. Expect a cooler time from the weather as we move into the evening with temperatures gently dipping to a cosy 6°C by midnight.

A collision on Harehills Lane in Chapel Allerton involving two cars led to two people being hospitalised and the closure of the road. The incident was reported in the afternoon and resulted in emergency services, including fire engines, attending the scene.

The road was closed in both directions near the junction with Roxholme Avenue, close to Potternewton Park, with police cordons in place directing traffic and pedestrians away.

Knife Crime Message Spreads Throughout Leeds

A knife crime campaign in Leeds, featuring the Knife Angel sculpture, has engaged thousands of young people in a drive against violence. Led by Safer Leeds and backed by the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership, it also marked the launch of Project Shield, Leeds City Council's initiative focusing on a positive conversation with youths about knife crime.

Throughout February, educational activities and interventions reached students across the city's schools, aiming to protect those most at risk and change attitudes towards knife crime.
